FAQ

On this page you find the answers to the most popular questions we receive from our users. You might be wondering about a few things too – maybe you’ll find an answer here. If after reading this you still have unanswered questions, just drop us a line with your question, and we’ll let you know.

Q) What type of products do you support?

A) Basically, if your product consists of one or more file (and thus is a "digital good"), then we support it. Typically you will reference compressed files (e.g. ZIP or RAR), executable files (e.g. EXE), document files (e.g. PDF or DOC), images files (e.g. GIF, JPEG, BMP or PNG), movie files (e.g. AVI, MOV or WMV) or music files (e.g. MP3 or WAV)...but these are just examples.

Q) How much is your commission, and how much is the fixed setup/monthly fee?

A) First, there is absolutely no setup fee, and no monthly fee: we really mean zero, nada. As for the commission, there is no per-order commission as many of other services ask for. Instead, every 20 copies you sell, the 20th is paid to us instead of that to you. That’s our commission, which roughly corresponds to 5% (it depends whether any of the orders have had discount coupons applied to them). However, the good thing is that you only pay it when and if you reach 20 copies. In the meantime you don’t leave a penny to us! Now tell us who beat this :-)

Q) When am I paid after a customer purchases something from me?

A) By the time your customer downloads your file or gets his/her serial code, you will have already received the money on your PayPal account. So you don’t have to wait the end of the month to get a check from us, you get them immediately. This happens for all orders except those which are the 20th ones, which are instead paid to us as commission.

Q) Do you store my files on your server?

A) Yes and no. When you add the product to the catalog, you must specify the Url that points to the file already hosted on your site (in a secret folder with a non-guessable name) or on one of the many free file hosting services (Click here for a list of available options). So you don’t upload anything at that time, which also makes the processes extremely fast. When you receive an order for that product, we’ll dynamically download the file from the location you pointed us to, store it on our local server, and then let the customer download it from there. After the first order, we’ll keep your file on our server for a certain amount of days. If in this period there won’t be any more orders for that product then we’ll delete the files from our space. The next order will have your files downloaded again to our server, and so on. This makes it possible for us to avoid wasting space, by using it only when necessary, and also makes quicker the addition of new products. From the customer’s point of view there are no differences whether the products are stored on our server or somewhere else. What is important though is that in the end they always download it from us; they have no way to know the server location, where the files are located, and all downloads will always be tracked so that we can limit them as you specify.

Q) Is it your file-delivery strategy safe? Will the customer be able to bypass you and directly download the files from my space?

A) You can bet it is absolutely safe! If it wasn’t, we would never offer this service at all, as we consider security and fraud protection with the highest priority. As explained in the previous answer, your files are downloaded on-demand from your space to ours when someone makes an order for the product, and then kept locally for some period (so that if you receive many orders we won’t need to download it again and again). The customer will always download it from us, so that each and every download is logged. Because of this we can also block too frequent downloads made by some users, or not allow the download after some configurable interval has passed since the order. This innovative strategy works great for everyone: while being 100% reliable and safe, it allows us to keep costs low, and thus offer you the most affordable and convenient conditions.

Q) Can I have only one file associated to a product?

A) Absolutely not, you can have as many distinct files as you wish associated to the same product. When customers buy the product, they will be able to download each file separately, so that they download only what they actually need (for example they may just skip the large manual or demonstrative video that you offer together with your program). Services that don’t offer this option (and most don’t) simply can’t allow you to add a file to an existing product, and have existing customers download just the added file without re-downloading a whole new package that contains everything (the product you already had, and the new file you want to add). With us, you can.

Q) Do you support product bundles?

A) Yes, although indirectly. Just create a new product with the price of the bundle, which references all files of all single products you want to have in the bundle. This is another example of how flexible it is to support multiple files per product.

Q) Do you support serial codes?

A) Yes we do. You can add a list of serial/registration codes when you add your product (typically a shareware software, in this case) to the catalog, and when a customer purchases it, the first code will be extracted from the list and given to the customer.

Q) Do you support discount codes?

A) Yes we do. You can specify a list of product-specific discount codes, each with a value (expressed as a percentage of the product’s unit price, or as a fixed amount in your currency) and optionally an expiration date.

Q) Do you support just U.S. Dollars, or also other currencies?

A) We support all currencies currently supported by PayPal. At this time, this means we support U.S. Dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Czech Coruna, Danish Krone, Hong Kong Dollar, Hungarian Forint, Japanese Yen, Norwegian Krone, New Zealand Dollar, Polish Zloty, Swedish Krona and Singapore Dollar.

Q) How am I notified about orders? Can I store the order history on my own database?

A) We have a complete reporting center that you can use to get a list of orders, filtered by product, order status, and date interval. For every order you can see all details, such as the customer’s name and e-mail address, the order date, and a list of each download done by the customer (with date and client IP address). In addition to this, PayPal itself sends you a mail when you receive a payment. If this isn’t enough, we can optionally make a HTTP request to a custom script hosted on your space (the script can written in ASP.NET, ASP, PHP, CGI, JSP, anything you want). You’ll find all order details on the request’s POST collection. You can use this data to store the order history on your own database, for further analysis.
